Episode 51: Coach Mike Lane on Doing the Little Things Well
/Mike Lane has been the Director of Rowing and Head Women's Coach at Jacksonville University since the 2015 season. Prior to his highly successful program with the Dolphin rowing team he spent eight seasons at Penn as their head coach. Prior to his appointment at Penn, Lane built an impressive coaching resume. Before arriving in Philadelphia, he served as the men's freshman heavyweight rowing coach at MIT, where his responsibilities included organization and management of the freshman team, alumni relations, and recruiting. Before joining the staff at MIT, Lane served as program director and head coach for the Everett Rowing Association from 1997 to 2000. Under Lane’s guidance, the junior men’s crews finished second and fourth at Junior Nationals in three-consecutive seasons from 1998-2000. During his tenure, Lane’s crews also won nine regional championships. In addition to his responsibilities with the Everett Rowing Association, Lane established the women’s rowing team at Everett Community College in 1998, where he coached for two years. Lane has also served as an assistant coach for the U.S. Rowing Junior Women’s Development Camp and the Lake Lanier Rowing Club. Coach Lane graduated from Suffolk University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and marketing, and in the spring of 2009 he completed his master's degree in education at Penn.
